Solar subsidy for homes in Uttar Pradesh: the 2026 position in one answer
A Uttar Pradesh household installing rooftop solar gets the central PM Surya Ghar subsidy (up to ₹78,000) plus a UP state subsidy of ₹15,000/kW up to 2 kW (maximum ₹30,000) — a combined ₹1.08 lakh on a 3 kW system. The state subsidy is released by UPNEDA through direct transfer, typically within days of the central subsidy claim appearing on the national portal. UP's target under the scheme is 25 lakh households.
TL;DR
- Central CFA: ₹30,000/kW up to 2 kW, ₹18,000 for the third kW, ₹78,000 cap at 3 kW.
- UP state subsidy: ₹15,000/kW up to 2 kW — combined ₹45,000 at 1 kW, ₹90,000 at 2 kW, ₹1,08,000 at 3 kW.
- Systems up to 10 kW are deemed technically feasible in UP (UPERC order, May 2024) — no separate feasibility study.
- Apply at pmsuryaghar.gov.in with a UPNEDA-empanelled vendor; DCR panels are mandatory.

Subsidy amounts for UP homes
UPNEDA's scheme documentation sets the combined benefit:
| System size | Central CFA | UP state subsidy | Combined |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 kW | ₹30,000 | ₹15,000 | ₹45,000 |
| 2 kW | ₹60,000 | ₹30,000 | ₹90,000 |
| 3 kW | ₹78,000 | ₹30,000 | ₹1,08,000 |
| Above 3 kW | ₹78,000 | ₹30,000 | ₹1,08,000 |
The state subsidy applies up to 2 kW only, and neither subsidy extends beyond 3 kW. For context on how UP compares — Delhi's state top-up is ₹26,000/kW (up to ₹78,000 at 3 kW) and Rajasthan's is a flat ₹17,000 — see our Delhi subsidy guide and Rajasthan guide.
What a system costs and earns in UP
UPNEDA's information booklet puts installation costs at ₹60,000–65,000 per kW, with a 1 kW plant generating 4–5 units per day from roughly 10 sq m of shade-free roof. At those numbers, the booklet estimates homeowners recover their investment in 3–4 years through bill savings, against a 25-year plant life. UP's own solar-cities portal illustrates the combined effect at 2 kW: about ₹1.2 lakh installed cost, ₹90,000 in combined subsidy, roughly ₹30,000 net — with monthly savings near ₹1,600. Treat all of these as planning figures; final cost depends on the vendor quote and site survey.
Collateral-free financing at the concessional national rate — repo + 50 bps (5.75% p.a. at the last PIB update) with a 10-year tenure — is available for systems up to 3 kW; the mechanics are in our solar loan guide.
The UP application flow
- Register on the national portal (pmsuryaghar.gov.in) with your consumer account number, email and mobile; select your discom, circle and division.
- Technical feasibility (TFR): for plants up to 10 kW, UP treats the application as deemed approved without a technical feasibility study — per the UPERC order of 28 May 2024 — so approval is essentially immediate.
- Select a UPNEDA-empanelled vendor and finalise the order; the empanelled list is maintained on the UPNEDA solar rooftop portal. DCR modules (made-in-India cells and modules) are mandatory for the subsidy.
- Installation and commissioning: the vendor installs, you upload installation details (inverter and module serial numbers, photographs), and the discom jointly inspects and issues the Project Commissioning Report.
- Net meter: sign the inter-connection agreement, pay the processing fee, and the discom tests and installs the net meter — UPNEDA's SOP allocates about 3 days for meter testing and installation after the indent.
- Subsidies: the central CFA is processed within 15 days of approval (after bank verification through PFMS); UPNEDA releases the state subsidy within about 7 days of the CFA claim appearing on the national portal.

Noida, Ghaziabad and west UP
Most NCR-side UP homes deal with PVVNL (Pashchimanchal) for Noida and Ghaziabad districts, while NPCL (Noida Power Company) serves Greater Noida. The scheme, subsidy amounts and national-portal flow are identical across UP's discoms — PVVNL, MVVNL, DVVNL, PuVVNL, KESCO, Torrent Power and NPCL all operate under the same UPNEDA framework, with district-wise targets under the 25-lakh-household goal. For discom-level net metering detail, see our UPPCL net metering guide and NPCL guide.
Societies and RWAs in UP
Group housing societies and RWAs installing for common facilities (including EV charging) up to 500 kW — capped at 3 kW per house — get a central CFA of ₹18,000/kW up to 3 kW plus the UP state subsidy of ₹15,000/kW up to 2 kW: up to ₹84,000 combined. The upper limit is inclusive of any individual rooftop plants installed by residents inside the society. For how such arrangements work in the NCR, see our housing society solar guide.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much subsidy do I get for a 3 kW system in UP?
₹1,08,000 combined: ₹78,000 central CFA under PM Surya Ghar plus ₹30,000 from the UP government (₹15,000/kW up to 2 kW). Capacity beyond 3 kW attracts no additional subsidy on either side.
When does the UP state subsidy reach my account?
After your central CFA claim is submitted and released through the national portal, UPNEDA releases the state subsidy — its SOP allows about 7 days — by direct transfer to the bank account you registered.
Do I need technical feasibility approval in UP?
Not for systems up to 10 kW: under the UPERC order of 28 May 2024, solar rooftop applications up to 10 kW are deemed approved without a technical feasibility study. Your vendor still needs discom sign-off at the joint inspection stage before commissioning.
Can I use any solar vendor in UP?
Only vendors empanelled with UPNEDA (and registered on the national portal) can deliver a subsidised installation. UPNEDA also publicly blacklists non-performing vendors and forfeits their ₹2.5 lakh bank guarantees — a useful signal when comparing installers.
Is solar worth it in UP without the subsidy?
With the subsidy, clearly so — UPNEDA's own figures show a 3–4 year payback and 25-year plant life. Without it (above 3 kW, or if you forgo the subsidy to use non-DCR modules), economics depend on your consumption and tariff; our home solar guide covers the sizing logic.
I live in Noida. Is anything different?
No — Noida (PVVNL) and Greater Noida (NPCL) residents get the same central and UP state subsidies through the same national portal. Only the discom's net-metering portals, fees and inspection timelines differ.
