Solar subsidy for homes in Rajasthan: the 2026 position in one answer
A Rajasthan household installing rooftop solar gets the central PM Surya Ghar subsidy (up to ₹78,000) plus a ₹17,000 state top-up — up to ₹95,000 combined — and households registered under the Chief Minister's free-electricity scheme can effectively get a 1.1 kW system free: the government estimates its cost at ₹50,000, exactly covered by ₹33,000 central plus ₹17,000 state subsidy. In return, such homes move from 100 free units a month to 150 free units generated by their own rooftop.
TL;DR
- Central CFA: ₹30,000/kW up to 2 kW, ₹18,000 for the third kW, ₹78,000 cap at 3 kW.
- Rajasthan state top-up: ₹17,000 (minimum 1.1 kW), paid by DBT after the central subsidy is credited — combined up to ₹95,000.
- The 150-unit Nishulk Bijli route: registered free-electricity consumers with their own roof get 150 free units/month from rooftop solar instead of 100 from the grid.
- New unified DRE-PMT portal (live October 2026) handles net-metering applications; physical document submission has been discontinued.

Subsidy amounts for Rajasthan homes
| System size | Central CFA | Rajasthan state top-up | Combined |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1.1 kW | ₹33,000 (pro-rata) | ₹17,000 | ₹50,000 |
| 2 kW | ₹60,000 | ₹17,000 | ₹77,000 |
| 3 kW | ₹78,000 | ₹17,000 | ₹95,000 |
| Above 3 kW | ₹78,000 | ₹17,000 | ₹95,000 |
Unlike Delhi's per-kW top-up (₹26,000/kW — see our Delhi guide), Rajasthan's state support is a flat ₹17,000 per household, credited after discom verification by direct benefit transfer. The state's own press communication confirms the ₹95,000 combined maximum and the free-1.1 kW arithmetic for consumers in the Mukhyamantri Nishulk Bijli Yojana.
The 150-units-free solar route
Rajasthan's flagship combination works like this: households already registered under the Mukhyamantri Nishulk Bijli Yojana (100 free units/month) who own their roof can register consent through the discoms or the BijliMitra app, install rooftop solar under PM Surya Ghar, and thereafter receive 150 free units a month — generated by their own system. The state's framing: the 1.1 kW plant that produces those ~150 units costs about ₹50,000, which the ₹33,000 central plus ₹17,000 state subsidy covers in full. Surplus generation is adjusted against future bills or paid out annually. Registration for this route runs through the discom portals (energy.rajasthan.gov.in and 150unitmuftbijli.bijlimitra.com) and the BijliMitra mobile app, before the national-portal application.
More than 1.66 lakh consumers had registered consent for the scheme by November 2025, and the state reported over 1.32 lakh families availing collateral-free loans for solar — with Rajasthan ranking in the top five states nationally under PM Surya Ghar.
How to apply in Rajasthan
- Register consent for the 150-unit route (if applicable) via your discom — JVVNL (Jaipur), JDVVNL (Jodhpur) or AVVNL (Ajmer) — or the BijliMitra app.
- Apply on the national portal (pmsuryaghar.gov.in), select a registered vendor (DCR panels mandatory), and install — the standard flow from our PM Surya Ghar apply-online guide.
- Clear discom inspection and net-metering commissioning.
- Receive subsidies: the central CFA via the e-token; then the ₹17,000 state top-up by DBT into your registered bank account.
Two 2026 changes matter for the process. First, Rajasthan's unified DRE-PMT portal (drenergy.rajasthan.gov.in) is now live as the single window for net-metering rooftop applications, meter testing and discom approvals — all new distributed-energy applications except PM Surya Ghar itself go through it. Second, physical submission of documents for PM Surya Ghar and DRE-PMT applications was discontinued on 19 October 2026 — everything is now online. Discom-level net metering detail is in our Rajasthan net metering guide and RRECL guide.
Loans and other add-ons
Rajasthan advertises collateral-free loans covering up to 90% of system cost — the national scheme's terms (repo + 50 bps, 5.75% p.a. at the last PIB update, 10-year tenure, systems up to 3 kW) apply; mechanics in our solar loan guide. The state also provides a free smart meter to eligible solar households. For homes beyond the subsidy caps, the sizing logic in our Delhi NCR home solar guide applies equally in Jaipur or Jodhpur.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much subsidy do I get for rooftop solar in Rajasthan?
Up to ₹95,000 combined for a 3 kW system: ₹78,000 central CFA under PM Surya Ghar plus the ₹17,000 Rajasthan state top-up, paid by DBT after the central subsidy is credited. The top-up applies from 1.1 kW onwards and caps at one payment per household.
Can a small system really be free in Rajasthan?
For consumers registered under the Mukhyamantri Nishulk Bijli Yojana who own their roof: yes, in effect. A 1.1 kW system — estimated cost ₹50,000 by the state — is fully covered by the ₹33,000 central plus ₹17,000 state subsidy, and in exchange the household receives 150 free units a month from its own generation instead of 100 grid units.
What happens to the electricity my system generates beyond 150 units?
Surplus exports feed the grid through net metering: they're adjusted against your future bills or settled annually at the discom's approved rate, per the state's 150-unit scheme guidelines.
Which discom do I apply through?
Whichever serves you: JVVNL (Jaipur region), JDVVNL (Jodhpur region) or AVVNL (Ajmer region) — via energy.rajasthan.gov.in, the BijliMitra app, or the new unified DRE-PMT portal. The national PM Surya Ghar portal remains the entry point for the central subsidy.
Do I still submit physical documents in Rajasthan?
No. From 19 October 2026, Rajasthan discoms discontinued physical document submission for PM Surya Ghar and DRE-PMT applications — registration, vendor selection, inspection tracking and subsidy claims are all online.
Is a loan available for the balance cost?
Yes — collateral-free loans covering up to 90% of cost under the national scheme: repo + 50 bps (5.75% p.a. at the last PIB update), 10-year tenure, systems up to 3 kW, applied through the Jan Samarth portal.
