PM Surya Ghar Apply Online: Step-by-Step (2026)

Sun Wave Technologies28 October 20268 min read

How to apply for PM Surya Ghar online, in one answer

You apply for the PM Surya Ghar subsidy entirely online at pmsuryaghar.gov.in: register with your mobile number and electricity consumer (CA) number, choose a registered vendor, get the system installed and inspected by your discom, submit bank details, and redeem the e-token — the Central Financial Assistance is processed within 15 days of discom approval. The whole flow needs no paperwork beyond scans: electricity bill, ID, bank proof and geo-tagged installation photos.

TL;DR

  • Registration → vendor selection → installation → discom inspection → subsidy disbursal, all on one portal.
  • Subsidy: ₹30,000/kW up to 2 kW, ₹78,000 maximum at 3 kW for homes; systems up to 10 kW are treated as deemed feasible in principle.
  • Delhi homeowners: apply for the state subsidy separately at solar.delhi.gov.in — details below.
  • Equipment must be DCR (made-in-India cells and modules) and installed by a portal-registered vendor, or no subsidy.

What to keep ready before you start

The national portal pulls your consumer details from your discom's API, so the single most important item is your consumer account number (CA number) from a recent electricity bill — with the registered mobile number matching your discom's records, since OTPs go only to that number. Also keep: an email ID you can verify on the spot, your bank account details with a cancelled cheque or passbook scan, ID and address proof, proof of site ownership, and a rough sense of your monthly consumption in units. If someone else helps you fill the form — a Common Service Centre, for instance — the portal asks for their VLE or reference code.

The application flow, step by step

  1. Register on the national portal. At pmsuryaghar.gov.in, choose consumer login, enter your mobile number and the captcha, accept the scheme consent, and verify the OTP.
  2. Complete your profile. Name, verified email, and full address with district and PIN. First-time users are asked whether they want a vendor to fill the application on their behalf — you can accept help without losing control of the application.
  3. File the application. Select state, district and discom; enter the CA number and hit "fetch details" — your consumer record loads from the discom's API. Pick the consumer category (residential, or RWA with household count), propose a capacity, pin your roof's location on the map, mark the roof area, and enter monthly consumption and bill value. The portal's built-in calculator then shows an estimated system configuration, capital cost and payback.
  4. Feasibility. Under the Electricity (Rights of Consumers) Rules, 2020, rooftop applications up to 10 kW are deemed accepted without a separate technical-feasibility approval; where a discom still requires it, you upload the documents it asks for. TPDDL, for instance, treats systems up to 10 kW as deemed feasible and asks you to apply after installation.
  5. Select a vendor. Filter the registered-vendor list by state, district and discom; compare completed installations, capacity and ratings. You are free to negotiate price and components directly with the vendor — there is no tender or fixed rate card under this scheme. You can switch vendors until installation details are submitted.
  6. Installation and upload. The vendor installs, runs safety checks, and walks you through operation and maintenance. Then you (or the vendor, through your login) upload installation details with geo-tagged photographs and submit.
  7. Discom inspection and net meter. The discom physically inspects against the scheme checklist, signs the net-metering agreement and installs the net or smart meter. This is where DCR compliance and technical specifications get verified.
  8. Bank details, e-token, and money. Submit bank details with a cancelled cheque or statement. The portal generates an e-token, activated with your eligible CFA after inspection; redeem it from your profile and the subsidy is processed within 15 days of discom approval — to your bank account, or to your loan account first if you financed the system.

Delhi homeowners then take one extra step: claim the Delhi state subsidy (₹26,000/kW) through the Delhi Solar Portal, whose DBT process pulls data from the national portal. The combined stack is covered in our Delhi subsidy amounts guide, and homes using up to 400 units/month should check the zero-upfront Delhi route before paying anything themselves.

Tracking, corrections and rejections

Every stage is visible under "My applications" on the portal. If the discom returns the application for corrections, fix the flagged fields and resubmit; if it rejects the claim, the rejection must come with justification — most rejections trace to non-DCR equipment, an unregistered vendor, or mismatched consumer details. Vendors must rectify at their own cost any deficiency that blocks commissioning or CFA disbursal, which is one more reason to pick a vendor with a long completed-installations history rather than the cheapest quote.

Delhi NCR specifics: discom portals you'll touch

The national portal routes post-installation processes through each discom's own portal. For the NCR:

Note for NDMC and Delhi Cantonment (MES) areas: those discoms' portals were still listed as under process on the national portal's discom directory at the time of writing — BSES/TPDDL-area residents are unaffected.

Financing option: don't drain savings if you don't need to

The portal integrates collateral-free bank loans at a concessional rate — repo + 50 basis points, i.e. 5.75% p.a. at the time of the March 2026 PIB release — with a 10-year tenure for residential systems up to 3 kW, applied through the Jan Samarth portal. The CFA is then credited to your loan account first. The full mechanics, EMI illustrations and the step-by-step bank flow are in our solar loan guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the PM Surya Ghar application take end to end?

Registration and application are same-day tasks. The variable parts are vendor scheduling, installation and the discom inspection queue. Once the discom approves on the portal, the CFA is processed within 15 days. Delhi's zero-upfront ULA route runs on separate first-come, first-served capacity with its own timelines.

Can I install solar myself or with a local electrician and still get the subsidy?

No. CFA is released only for systems installed by vendors registered on the national portal, using DCR modules (Indian-made cells and modules) and BIS-certified inverters. An unregistered installation forfeits the subsidy entirely.

What documents do I need to apply?

Consumer account number from your electricity bill, a mobile number registered with your discom, verified email, ID and address proof, site-ownership proof (with an NOC if the property is co-owned), bank account details with a cancelled cheque or statement, and geo-tagged photos of the installed system at the upload stage.

I already installed solar without a subsidy. Can I claim now?

No. CFA applies to new installations under the scheme, and each rooftop installation is eligible once. A household that availed a subsidy under the older Phase-II scheme can claim additional CFA only for balance capacity up to 3 kW on an expansion.

Can I apply on the portal without choosing a subsidy?

Yes — the "Give It Up" option lets you forgo the CFA. Consumers who opt out are also freed from the DCR module requirement, which matters if you want specific high-efficiency modules that aren't DCR-compliant.

Where do I check my application status?

Log in at pmsuryaghar.gov.in and open "My applications": it shows the application ID, vendor status, installation details, inspection outcome and e-token status. SMS and email notifications fire at each stage.
