How much does factory rooftop solar cost in Delhi?

A 100 kW CAPEX rooftop system for a Delhi factory costs about ₹23 lakh (₹23,000/kW) excluding GST with Sun Wave, and a 500 kW system about ₹1.1 crore (₹22,000/kW). Sizes in between are priced progressively, and the final quote follows a site survey of your roof, load and BRPL / BYPL / TPDDL connection.

Net metering sized to sanctioned load

Under DERC's 2014 net-metering regulations, any consumer can net-meter a system of 1 kWp or more, sized to sanctioned load, service-line capacity and grid feasibility. Surplus units carry forward within the financial year, and leftover credits are paid at the Commission-notified rate.

Faster approvals since July 2026

DERC's 2026 guidelines set a two-stage online process for C&I: feasibility within 15 days (deemed granted if the DISCOM misses it), then verification, net meter and connectivity within 10 days of installation.

₹1/kWh generation incentive for C&I

Delhi's Solar Energy Policy gives commercial and industrial rooftops a generation-based incentive of ₹1 per kWh of gross solar generation for 5 years, limited to the first 200 MW. The September 2026 amendment keeps it for C&I and extends the policy to March 2030. There is no capital subsidy for C&I.

Industrial tariff and surcharges

The industrial energy charge is ₹7.75/kVAh plus ₹250/kVA/month under DERC's tariff order of 30.09.2021, which remains in force. A valid factory licence is required; surcharges, a monthly power-purchase adjustment and electricity duty are added on top. ToD (±20%) applies May–September.

Green open access from 100 kW

DERC's 2026 amendment removed the 11 kV condition: any consumer with 100 kW or more of contracted demand, on one connection or several in the same DISCOM area, can now buy green power through open access.

Illustrative only. Assumes the factory uses all solar output during working hours and counts the energy charge alone, treating one kVAh as one kWh (unity power factor). It excludes GST, demand charges, surcharges, panel degradation, O&M and financing. Your actual payback depends on your tariff category, load profile and roof. Local context

What Delhi factories should know

Delhi's industrial tariff applies only with a valid factory licence. If it lapses, the unit is billed at the higher non-domestic rate — ₹8.50 instead of ₹7.75/kVAh.

A CEEW field study with BYPL found that cleaning modules raised the output of Delhi rooftop systems by 10–20%, because of dust and poor air quality — regular O&M matters more here than in most cities.

Delhi has three main DISCOMs: BRPL serves South and West Delhi (including Okhla and Mayapuri), BYPL East and Central Delhi, and TPDDL North and North-West Delhi (including Bawana, Narela, Wazirpur and Badli).

Delhi is in the National Capital Region, so CAQM Direction No. 76 applies: diesel DG sets may run only as backup, and older sets of 41–800 kW need dual-fuel kits or certified emission-control retrofits. Rooftop solar cuts the daytime units a DG set or the grid has to supply.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a rooftop solar subsidy for factories in Delhi?

There is no capital subsidy for commercial or industrial consumers; Delhi's capital subsidy is for homes and housing societies. Factories can get a generation-based incentive of ₹1 per kWh of solar generated for 5 years, limited to the first 200 MW of C&I capacity, which the September 2026 amendment keeps.

How long does net metering approval take in Delhi for a factory?

Under DERC's 2026 guidelines, the DISCOM must finish technical feasibility within 15 days or it is deemed granted. After installation it must verify documents, inspect, fit the net meter and grant connectivity within 10 days.

How much does a 100 kW rooftop solar plant cost in Delhi?

Sun Wave's reference price is about ₹23,000/kW excluding GST at 100 kW, about ₹23 lakh, and ₹22,000/kW at 500 kW, about ₹1.1 crore. At about 1,200 kWh per kWp a year, a 100 kW plant produces roughly 1.2 lakh units annually.

Can a factory in Delhi buy green power through open access?

Yes, if its contracted demand or sanctioned load is 100 kW or more, on one connection or several in the same DISCOM area. DERC's 2026 amendment removed the earlier requirement to be connected at 11 kV or above.
